Nursing & Health Care

Health Care is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United States. In addition to a wide range of specialty physicians, this industry includes a diverse group of careers ranging from nursing to medical assisting and insurance billing to laboratory technicians, with a multitude of other careers in-between.

Tulare Adult School is pleased to provide our students with programs in the following:

CNA

Certified Nursing Assistants help patients during their stay at a medical facility by providing basic services such as feeding, toileting, clean up, and vital recordings. They often work, under the supervision of a registered nurse, with patients in long-term care facilities. Our CNA course includes both classroom instruction and clinical experience.

In order to be considered for this program, we require potential students to attend orientation and complete a drug screening and placement assessment. Please call the main office to inquire about the next available orientation date.

LVN

Licensed Vocational Nurses care for patients under the supervision of a doctor or registered nurse. They often collect and record vital signs and blood/urine samples, deliver medication, and supervise other medical staff. Many LVNs work closely with doctors in smaller clinics and private practices. Our 18-month program requires:

  • Current CNA certificate
  • Passing grades in Medical Terminology, Nutrition, Anatomy & Physiology
  • Current ID and immunization record

Upon completion of our program, students are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

This is an “invitation only” program. In order to qualify students must:

  • Pass the TEAS exam at Tulare Adult School with a 70-100% grade.
  • Pass our internal screening and registration process, which includes an application, official transcripts, and three letters of professional recommendation.
  • Complete a personal interview.
  • Clear a background check, physical examination, and drug screening.
  • Offer proof of a valid Healthcare Provider CPR card.

Medical Assisting

Our Clinical & Administrative Medical Assisting course prepares students for all aspects of front and back office medical assisting as well as extensive training in EKG procedures. Medical Assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks in medical offices and clinics including filing, medical forms, patient correspondence, appointment scheduling, and bookkeeping. Our program also prepares students for specimen collections and diagnostic procedures like EKG and audiograms. After the successful completion of our program, students will be eligible for several certifications.

Injections Certificate
As part of our nursing program, this course offers pre-nursing students the opportunity to learn medical math skills. It also offers current medical assistants the opportunity to obtain an injections certificate.
